John Weatherly

John Weatherly, RN, had a very successful career in the banking industry, and then decided to follow his calling to become a nurse. So, while in his 40s, he started his second career by enrolling in Troy State University in Alabama and obtained his bachelor's degree in nursing in 1996. John then spent the majority of his nursing career at Augusta Medical Center in Waynesboro, Virginia, as a nurse on a medical surgical inpatient unit.

His colleagues remember him for his clinical competence, compassion for patients, and everpresent sense of humor. He was a joy to work with and readily mentored new nurses on the unit. John fought a valiant battle against lung cancer, and died in July 2011.

This scholarship is in honor and memory of John and is specified to support male nurses or nursing students who have a heart for patients and short-term mission experiences.
